This study aims to present a critical reflection on the representations of the print media on the indigenous issue in Rondônia between 1981 and 1985. It is a cultural-historical study, in which the written press, taken here as representations, was used as a source. The methodological approach was serial, using content analysis techniques to treat, systematize and handle the texts. The concepts of hegemony and the culture industry were used in the search for an understanding of the manipulations of the news in relation to the representations of the Indian, which were ambiguously and arbitrarily inserted into a kind of game of consensus and hegemonic disputes. The time frame is characterized as a period of acceleration of multiple times and the reconstruction of physical and imaginary spaces in Rondônia, caused by an intense migration process to the Land of Providence and the New Eldorado.
