About the author

Mrs G. M. F. Bishop had at the time of publication been a magistrate for nineteen years.

Summary

First published in 1965, the public interest was centred on crime, prison and prisoners, and the prison population in the UK exceeded 24, 000. In order to help, it was necessary to understand something of the problems and difficulties a prisoner has to face when they are released, and it was with this need in view that the book was written.
