This book aims to overview the variety of efficient applications of free POM and POM-based (nano)composites as exciting materials for electrocatalysis. It covers the general methodologies used in the preparation of free POMs and POM-based nanocomposites the different strategies employed in electrode modification. The second and third part discuss the role of POM-modified electrodes in oxidative and reductive electrocatalysis including the detection/sensing of several (bio)molecules of interest and the carbon dioxide electroreduction. The fourth and fifth part focuses on the application of POM-based (nano)composites as electrocatalysts for energy-related reactions relevant to renewable energy storage and conversion technologies. These include the oxygen reduction reaction relevant to fuel cells, the oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions, batteries and supercapacitors. It includes challenges an future prospective of POM and POM-based materials electrocatalytic applications.

About the author

Diana M Fernandes (DMF) received her PhD in Chemistry (2010) by the University of Aveiro. In 2011, joined the University Porto as a FCT postdoc researcher and integrated Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry to work on POM-based Layer-by-Layer films with electrocatalytic, electrochromic and photochromic properties. In 2017, she started as an independent researcher an created a new research line on materials for electrochemical energy-related reactions. The international relevance of her work in Electrochemistry and Materials Science is published in several journals. In 2015 was awarded with the Young Investigator Award in Electrochemistry 2014 of Portuguese Electrochemical Society (SPE), as national recognition of her work in Electrochemistry and later that year was invited to be a member of SPE directive bodies.
