Der klassische, offene und suchende Dokumentarfilm findet kaum noch statt. An seine Stelle ist die formatierte geschlossene Dokumentation getreten, die sich den Regeln des Spiel-, Werbe- und Propagandafilms unterwirft. Es geht um maximale Emotionalisierung und Identifikation mit den Helden der Geschichte. Festivals, Filmförderer und TV-Anstalten fordern und fördern seit zwei Jahrzehnten solche marktgerechten Wohlfühl-Filme. Grautöne, Skepsis, Komplexität, Distanz zum Sujet und zum Mitdenken Herausforderndes sind kaum noch erwünscht. Dieses Buch versucht einerseits anhand des Films Die Siedler Francos zu erläutern, welche Schwierigkeiten Filmarbeiter haben, wenn sie sich diesem neoliberalen Einheitsformat widersetzen. Anderseits ist es das Bemühen, sich mit dem Thema des Films, nämlich der in Spanien nur unzureichend stattgefundenen Vergangenheitsbewältigung bezüglich des Bürgerkrieges und der Franco-Diktatur, näher zu beschäftigen. For some time, neoliberalism has defined the content and aesthetic of documentary films. The classic open, searching documentary film is now very rare. It has been superseded by formatted, closed documentaries that follow the rules of advertising, propaganda or feature films. Its about arousing emotions and encouraging identification with the heroes of the story. For the past twenty years, festivals, film sponsors and TV companies have been demanding and promoting feel-good films in conformity to the market. Theres little desire for films that offer grey shades, scepticism, complexity, distance from the subject, films that are thought-provoking and challenging. Through the example of Francos Settlers, this book explores the difficulties encountered by filmmakers who resist this neoliberal standard format. It also considers the subject of the film, how Spain has not yet undergone a process of coming to terms with the civil war, Franco's dictatorship and their legacies. El neoliberalismo determina cada vez más el contenido y la estética del cine documental. El documental clásico, de indagación, está siendo sustituido por un tipo de documental formateado, cerrado, que se somete a las reglas del cine de ficción, de la publicidad y de la propaganda con el objetivo de que el público se emocione e identifique con los "héroes de la historia que se cuenta. Festivales, distribuidores de cine y cadenas de televisión exigen y promocionan desde hace años películas comerciales que hagan sentir bien al espectador. Los tonos grises, el enfoque escéptico, la complejidad y la distancia con el tema y los protagonistas son hoy rechazados. Este libro toma Los Colonos del Caudillo como paradigma del documental de indagación y reflexiona sobre las dificultades a las que los autores de documentales se enfrentan hoy cuando se resisten a seguir el canon neoliberal dominante, al tiempo que profundiza en el tema de la película: la problemática que rodea el tratamiento de la memoria histórica en España en relación con la Guerra Civil y la dictadura de Franco.
