About the author

Thomas Lathbury (1798-1865) was an English cleric recognized as an ecclesiastical historian. Henry Lathbury's son was born in Brackley, Northamptonshire, and received his education at St. Edmund Hall in Oxford. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1824 and a master's degree in 1827. After taking holy orders, Lathbury was assigned curate of Chatteris in Cambridgeshire. He then served as a curate at Bath, Somerset, and Wootton, Northamptonshire. In 1831, he received the curacy of Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire, and in 1838, he was transferred to the Abbey Church in Bath.
