The Magic of the Farm gives presence and face to this region like Jim Sterba's Frankie's Place (Grove Press 2003) does for Maine's Acadia. Seven related stories contain several extended conversations and cover three generations of people who grew up on small dairy farms.

About the author

Philip Urie was born in the Northeast Kingdom town of Barton, Orleans County, Vermont at the "Cottage Hospital" in 1952. His wife Frances was raised in Bakersfield and St. Albans in northwestern Vermont. They raised their three children in Swanton. Phil attended Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh and received a master's degree in 2000.
