This literature review is devoted to heavy metal and dye pollution and their effects on the environment, and to the description of adsorption and the factors influencing sorption kinetics and isotherms. Some previous work on the sorption of two heavy metals, cobalt Co(II) and copper Cu (II), and the two dyes, methylene blue BM and methyl orange MO, by various sorbent materials is outlined. Firstly, we provide an overview of heavy metal pollution in general, and the sources and impact of cobalt Co (II) and copper Cu (II). In the second part, the main definitions and classifications of BM and MO dyes and their effects on man and the environment are presented. Next, the processes for eliminating pollutants from industrial effluents are reviewed. The basic principles of adsorption are reviewed. Finally, the results of some recent research on the sorption of Co(II) and Cu(II), BM and MO in aqueous phase are reviewed.
