With a body-positive aesthetic and ideas influenced by scholar Joseph Campbell, Goddesses Among Us rejects the shaming of women's bodies and sexuality imposed by centuries of patriarchal religion. Instead, it venerates the unabashed beauty and confident power of women, as it seeks to revive appreciation and respect for the ancient principles of the goddess. The book contains original portraits of 29 goddesses, created over a decade, with models posing for all compositions. Chapters focus on Folklore and Legend, Paleolithic Cave Art, Goddesses of the Bronze Age, Celtic and Norse Tales, and Witches. The portraits are colored-pencil paintings. No artificial intelligence was used.

Bryan Crowson, a journalist for 27 years at Alabama's largest daily newspaper until a layoff in 2012, changed direction to become an artist, focusing on figure art intertwined with mythology. He has been married 32 years to his wife Suzanne. They live in Gardendale with three cats and a dog.
