About the author
Over the last forty years, John Sonsini (b. 1950, Rome, NY) has established himself as one of the foremost portrait painters of his generation. Known for his dexterous use of oil paint, Sonsini is renowned for his portraits of men painted directly from life, capturing his sitter’s physical and psychological presence. He lives and works in Los Angeles.David Pagel is a professor of art theory and history in Claremont Graduate University’s Art Department, where he has taught since 1994. In addition to his academic role, Pagel is a respected art critic and curator. He has written extensively for the Los Angeles Times, and since 1988, he has published reviews, features, and essays in Artforum, Art in America, Flash Art, Frieze, and Art Issues, where he was reviews editor from 1998-2001.
