About the author










At the age of twenty-three, Jeffrey E. Stern went to Afghanistan, and while reporting on the region, worked with the American University of Afghanistan to launch its Professional Development Institute and helped initiate Goldman Sachs' inaugural 10,000 Women initiative. Additionally, Stern has worked for the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and was named both a Pulitzer Center Fellow for Crisis Reporting, and was a Graduate Fellow at the Stanford Center for International Conflict and Negotiation. Stern's reporting has appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, Foreign Policy, The Atlantic, Newsweek, Slate, Time, and The New Republic. He has also been featured on PBS News Hour, NPR Morning Edition, and Morning Joe among others.
