De l'Atlantique aux Carpates, les toutes premières villes d'Europe celtique se sont développées au IIIe s. a.C. En Aquitaine, alors que des indices permettaient d'envisager l'existence de ces premières formes urbaines, une équipe de scientifiques s'est constituée afin de vérifier et compléter les données. Depuis 2019, cinq sites font l'objet d'explorations en Dordogne, en Gironde et en Lot-et-Garonne. L'exposition explique les procédés numériques innovants mis en oeuvre pour explorer ces villes étendues sur plusieurs dizaines d'hectares et tenter de comprendre leur organisation. Elle livre aussi les résultats de l'étude des objets archéologiques qui révèlent une activité artisanale importante et de nombreux échanges avec le monde méditerranéen.
In the Europe of the Celts, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Carpathian Mountains, the earliest towns developed in the 3rd century BC. Indications that such early urban forms might be found in the Aquitaine region of France have brought together a team of scientists to investigate and supplement the data. Since 2019, five archaeological settlements have been surveyed in the Dordogne, Gironde, and Lot-et-Garonne areas. In the present catalogue, 64 authors explain the innovative methods used to explore these sites extending over tens of hectares in an attempt to understand their layout and the surrounding landscape. The book also presents the results of the latest excavations and the study of archaeological artefacts, revealing the scope of craft activities and exchanges with the Mediterranean world.
