Inward, Outward, Onward, Upward is about the personal connection each individual must have to the work of anti-oppression and inclusion. Prompts, dialogue-starters, illustrations and charts are among the exercises that gently guide, encourage alignment, and begin to unearth the puzzling impediments to real growth.

About the author

Cecile Shellman's thirty-plus-year-long museum career and deep love for people and learning position her to be an advocate for individuals and communities who have been marginalized and less represented by museums. Her career has taken her from the mountains of Park City to institutions in Boston and New York, and in Western Pennsylvania, where she currently resides. She continues to work tirelessly in the service of museum practitioners, boards of trustees, and museum service organizations to teach best practices in anti-oppression and inclusion in the arts.
