The East and the West have often been linked through a discourse parasitized by prejudice, hostility and even hatred. A booklet entitled "L'Amour de loin" (Love from afar), written by Amine Maalouf, who himself comes from a crossroads of different cultures, was created to set up circuits based on acceptance of the Other. This dramatic text tells a story that aims to mediate between East and West. The stakes of the story will be even higher when it is transposed to the stage in the form of an opera. The scenic work, strongly inspired by the text, is a song of love and clemency whose quest is to build bridges between cultures and heal imaginations beset by clichés and hate speech. This study of a text and its scenic transposition aims to bring out the ideology of interculturalism conveyed structurally and scenically, by studying the ideologies reflected in the text and scenography.
