Jean F. Challacombe is senior genomics bioinformatics specialist in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of California San Diego School of Medicine, USA. She holds a BS in pharmacology, a PhD in neuroscience, and equivalent education and experience to a MS in computer science. Dr. Challacombe is an expert of next-generation sequence analysis of metagenomes and metatranscriptomes; metabolic pathway analysis and modeling; proteome analysis; algorithm and software development with various machine learning tools; design, implementation and administration of different database systems; UNIX/Linux/Mac system administration; high-performance, parallel and distributed computing; and web application development. She enjoys using computational methods to solve complex biological problems.
