Modern orthodontics is not only limited to tooth movement by means of force systems applied to the teeth, but now seeks to produce changes in the architecture of the bone tissue surrounding the tooth and is often accompanied by complementary techniques. From the patient's perspective, shorter treatment times have a positive impact on lifestyle, making them less vulnerable to losing motivation and commitment to their orthodontic treatment. Numerous methods to accelerate orthodontic movement have been studied, such as chemical or pharmacological methods, which increase tooth movement, but with many adverse effects. This is why the self-teaching manual is based on describing surgical methods, where corticotomy stands out. This manual on the theoretical and biological bases of the use of surgical accelerators of tooth movement is divided into 4 learning units.
