This manual is intended for educators interested in creating Spanish language teaching programs under the "service-learning" or service-learning model in educational institutions in the United States. The purposes of this manual are:1. To assist in the creation of your own service-learning program in Spanish.2. To offer tools that can enrich existing service-learning programs in Spanish by compiling best practices in the field.3. To virtually link teachers who are carrying out service-learning programs in Spanish in the United States with the purpose of sharing lessons and experiences, while expanding resources to improve our programs (Alianza Eduación).

José Miguel Lemus nasceu na Cidade do México. Estudou jornalismo na UNAM. É professor associado na Universidade de Creighton, em Omaha. Tem um doutoramento em literatura pela Universidade de Illinois. Praticou a aprendizagem de serviços na UIUC, UNL e Creighton. É presidente do Capítulo Nebraska-Iowa da Global Mx Network e recebeu o Prémio Ohtli.
