About the author










Christoph received his veterinary degree from the University of Leipzig (Germany) in 2006. He completed an internship in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College (Canada), and a residency in Zoological Medicine at the University of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee County Zoo. He is currently a clinical assistant professor of zoological medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a co-editor of the Clinical Veterinary Advisor: Birds and Exotic Pets and has authored in book chapters in Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents 3rd edition, Current Therapy in Reptile Medicine and Surgery, and Plunkett's Emergency Procedures for the Small Animal Veterinarian (3rd edition). Vladimír is a 2002 graduate of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, Královo Pole, Brno, Czech Republic, where he serves as an Assistant Professor at the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in small exotic mammal dentistry in 2006. He has practiced exclusively small mammal medicine and since 2009 he has been the European Recognized Specialist in zoological medicine (small mammal). He has lectured extensively through Europe and he has published more than 300 articles dealing with exotic animal medicine in regional and international journals and conference proceedings. Particularly, he was the invited speaker and practical wet lab tutor in a lot of national and world small animal conferences (BSAVA, WSAVA, WVC, etc.). Jekl is the coauthor of BSAVA Manual of Rodents and Ferrets. His current focus involves dental disease, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and soft tissue surgery in small pet mammals.
