He is a distinguished former diplomat, an active figure in India’s strategic community and a prolific commentator on foreign policy. As Director General, he imparted considerable dynamism to the ICWA, a premier think tank on international affairs. He was Senior Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore, during 2011–13. As India’s ambassador to Myanmar from 2002–05, he had a ringside view of developments in the region.
