About the author

A.J.H. Latham is Professor of Economic History at the University of Wales, Swansea and is co-editor of Intra-Asian trade and the World Market and Asia Pacific Dynamism 1550-2000, both published by Routledge.
Heita Kawakatsu is Principal of Shizuoka Art College. Until 2007 he was Professor of Economic History and Vice-Director of the International Research Centre for Japanese Studies in Kyoto. He is co-editor of Intra-Asian trade and the World Market and Asia Pacific Dynamism 1550-2000, both published by Routledge
