Die Frage `Was ist Dialektik` wirft bis heute Unklarheiten auf, zuweilen auch erhebliche Kontroversen und Ärgernisse. Aus der Perspektive der alteren Kritischen Theorie zeigt sich, dass verbindliche Angaben über Ziel und Reichweite, Inhalt und Form, Anspruch und Wirklichkeit, Genesis und Geltung einer sozialwissenschaftlich relevanten Dialektik durchaus gegeben werden können. Grösse und Grenzen einer reflexiven, vermittlungslogischen Dialektik im Anschluss an Hegel und Adorno werden genauer betrachtet, dargestellt und diskutiert.
