"Der amerikanische Familiendiskurs hat sich als Folge der Legalisierung der gleichgeschlechtlichen Ehe in Massachusetts Ende November 2003 erneut manifestiert. Verstanden als ein sich im permanenten Fluss befindlicher Prozess des Aus- und Verhandelns von Institutionen, spiegelt der Diskurs - in der vorliegenden Arbeit diskursanalytisch konstruiert und als Diskursausschnitt betrachtet - einen Kampf um Deutungshoheiten wider, der nicht nur die Frage der vermeintlich richtigen sexuellen Konstellation der Institution Ehe betrifft, sondern auch das die amerikanische Gesellschaft tragende kulturelle Selbstverstandnis berührt. Über die Identifikation konkurrierender Legitimationsebenen zur Bestimmung von Wirklichkeit offenbart sich der amerikanische Kulturkampf, der an der Frage des 'wahren' und 'richtigen' Bezugspunktes menschlichen Handelns entbrennt."
