Zusatztext "?the authors appear to be onto something which! once its practical aspects can be exploited in the field! certainly has the potential for effective use in predominantly large-scale mining or extractive operations."-NZ Geomechanica News! June 2014"Selection of topics are well arranged! readers may follow the topic easily in a logical way without losing interest. ?The application of sound level in determining the fault and its diagnosis in the mechanical industries is very well known technique for practicing engineers and scientists. However! its application in rock engineering design is not very common and this book is unique in the market in this respect and I believe it will open new horizons to students and scientists working in rock engineering. ? The topic of the book is a new area in the field of rock mechanics and I believe it will open new horizons to research students and practicing engineers. ?"--Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin! Lecturer! Istanbul Technical University! Maden Fakultesi! Maslak Istanbul"?Applying a novel concept! the authors have demonstrated that rock properties can be estimated to a reasonable degree of accuracy even without carrying out actual tests in some established laboratory. The suggested method can be used for preliminary estimates of rock properties! thereby saving time and cost. ? I am of the opinion that the authors have presented a new idea through this book. This idea may prompt researchers worldwide to carry out further research in this area."--Prof. G. R. Adhikari! Department of Mining Engineering! Goa College of Engineering! India"Few of the numerous textbooks published on rock mechanics and mining engineering stray from the core subject matters of index properties! mass parameters! and ground stress. This book is very different - not only does it address a non-core subject but it makes it the centrepiece of the book. The fundamental premise presented here is that acoustic emissions (AE)! or the sound generated by the mechanised drilling of rock! can be used to indirectly determine other rock properties such as strength."--Kevin J. Hind! Engineering Geologist and Project Director! Tonkin & Taylor! Ltd.! from NZ Geomechanics News Informationen zum Autor Dr. Harsha Vardhan completed his bachelor of technology in mining engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka at Surathkal and a Ph.D. from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. At present he is working on the faculty of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka at Surathkal as associate professor, Department of Mining Engineering. He has developed expertise in the area of mine environment, underground ventilation, and noise control of mining equipment. He has developed a special interest in the application of acoustics in rock mechanics. Dr. Vardhan has to his credit more than 86 research papers in international and national journals and conferences. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bayar completed his bachelor of engineering degree in mechanical engineering from Mysore University, his master of Technology in advanced manufacturing engineering, and a Ph.D. from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka at Surathkal. At present he is working on the faculty of the Department of Engineering, Mechanical Section, Higher College of Technology, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Bayar has developed expertise in the area of CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, artificial neural network, and rock mechanics. He is actively involved in research and consultancy. Klappentext Being knowledgeable about rock properties is vital to being effective in the design of blasts in mines, quarries and other construction projects. Without proper knowledge, the energy released during blasting can be underutilized, ha...
