In 1972 he embarked on a career in the British diplomatic service and was posted across the world. Since 1995 he has been a volunteer at Department of Coins and Medals in the British Museum. Richard was appointed the Editor (ancient) of the Royal Numismatic Society's annual journal The Numismatic Chronicle, and shortly after took charge of Society's Special Publications.

Summary

One of the regular series of volumes published in the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum project, under the auspices of the British Academy. The project's aim is to publish major collections of ancient Greek coins, principally in public institutions, but sometimes in private hands. The purpose is to make available to scholars corpora of unpublished material to be used in, for example, studies of individual mints. Each volume gives brief descriptions, along with technical details (weight, die-axis, metal, references, suggested dates) of every coin opposite plates illustrating both their obverse and reverses (i.e. "heads" and "tail").

Additional text

this is an exemplary volume. Meticulously presented and documented, such Sylloges become reference works in their own right.
