About the author










René Revis Shingles, PhD, AT, ATC, is a professor and member of the Athletic Training Program Faculty at Central Michigan University. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and has received many prestigious awards, including National Athletic Trainers' Association Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee Bill Chisolm Professional Service Award, Michigan ACE Distinguished Woman in Higher Education Leadership Award, Central Michigan University Woman of the Year, and Central Michigan University Excellence in Teaching Award. The Dr. René Revis Shingles Leadership Award was created to honor her for her outstanding leadership qualities. Shingles is the first African-American woman inducted into the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame.

Kysha Harriell, PhD, LAT, ATC, is a Clinical Professor at the University of Miami and the Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence and Advocacy in the School of Education and Human Development. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in Athletic Training and currently serves as the Vice President of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
