Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject African Studies - Literature, grade: 2, , language: English, abstract: This study analyses the works of Grace Ogot, Zakes Mda as well as Steve Chimombo. A number of other related works have been included with the idea of moving the argument in this essay at its full speed. The essay examines how the aforementioned writers use rain-making mythology to construct a common African ontology. Many characters in all the works under discussion are connected to rain-making mythology. They all understand it as the only refuge which can solve drought problems in their societies. The study pins down the narratives by looking at how Carl Jung¿s theory of archetypes helps to advance the study. Besides, the study employs Freuds concept of uncanny to examine the inner feelings of various characters. These feelings have the ability to cause hatred amongst the characters. This hatred eventuates into characters othering their fellow characters.
