Translational Inflammation links laboratory and clinical data within primary and secondary care to clinical research data and offers a holistic and innovative approach to chronic inflammation and ageing. Understanding the role of inflammation as a part of clinical disease states is becoming a valuable tool in both direct treatment and the development of therapeutics. Translational Inflammation, the 4th volume in the Perspectives in Translational Cell Biology series, offers content for professors, students and researchers across basic and translational biology.

List of contents

1. Translational Inflammation
2. The Hypoxic Adenosine Response and Inflammation in Lung Disease
3. Inflammation and regulation by cell adhesion antagonists
4. Anti-inflammatory Herbal Supplements
5. Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) as an Insult-induced Immune Dissonance: Potential Control via Lactoferrin
6. Chronic Inflammation in HIV Pathogenesis: Effects on Immune Cells, Organ Systems and Systemic Consequences
7. Modulation of Inflammation to Control Tuberculosis Disease
8. Innate Immunity and Pulmonary Inflammation: A Balance Between Protection and Disease

About the author

Jeffrey K. Actor, PhD, is a professor and Medical Immunology Course Director in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Center at Houston. Dr. Actor received his PhD degree from the University of Massachusetts. His research interests include examination of host immune responses during pathogenic disease, understanding proinflammatory and regulatory cytokines during mycobacterial infections, vaccine development, and molecular mechanisms of adjuvant-induced immunomodulation.

Professor Actor has established himself as a productive educator-scientist with a strong background in immunology and molecular biology with a broad range of expertise in pathobiology. He has shown his commitment to education and excellence, at both the Medical School and Graduate School levels.Dr. Keri Csencsits-Smith, PhD is an assistant professor at the McGovern Medical school at the Univ, of Texas Houston Health Science Center. She has an extensive research background in translational immunology studies, including work transplantation, blood disorders, and neurodegeneration, and has co-authored 22 peer-reviewed publications and two invited reviews. For the past 10 years she has been involved in the teaching and development of basic histology and pathobiology, and immunology courses for medical, dental, and graduate students.
