About the author

Joanna Howes has a bachelor’s degree in natural history and ecology, as well as a master’s degree in education. She is a naturalist and Montessori teacher in Tahoe Vista, California. 

 
Alex Bailey has a bachelor’s degree in geology and a master’s degree in environmental geochemistry. She is a fine artist and scientific illustrator in Reno, Nevada.
