Adolescents with type 1 diabetes - Issues and challenges

Type 1 diabetes is the most common endocrinopathy in children. It requires a multidisciplinary approach involving pediatricians, endocrinologists, nutritionists and psychologists. Adolescents face countless challenges as they make the transition to adult care structures, whether organic, psychological, social, academic or professional.This transition from childhood to adulthood is a crucial point in the adolescent's journey, and requires the involvement of all those involved to ensure its success. It is therefore vital to establish a protocol for the transition to adult endocrinology structures, and to prepare patients sufficiently both somatically and psychologically. This will enable them to manage their diabetes more effectively and enjoy a better quality of life.
