The persistent confusion between the work of the psychoanalyst and the psychiatrist will be a recurring theme both in the cultural field and in the field of health, being witness of this important and great confusion this theme will have as a cardinal point the purpose of polishing two basic concepts of both disciplines which are the concept of symptom in psychoanalysis and the concept of disorder in psychiatry. Knowing the difference between the two concepts is crucial for the health professional of any speciality, as both have different approaches and treatments for the subject. Bibliographic analysis will be an indispensable tool for this work, as we will be looking for writings that are sometimes old as well as current; in this way we will be able to clearly appreciate the similarities and differences between the concepts of both disciplines and not only that, but also appreciate the approach and treatment that each discipline gives to the subject, contributing to reduce the confusion between both disciplines.
