According to various researches, diabetes mellitus patients have an increased incidence of apical periodontitis and more endodontic treatment. Diabetics had a severe survival rate for root-filled teeth, with greater chances of endodontic failure rate and a higher incidence of persistent chronic apical periodontitis. Higher prevalence of apical periodontitis, more endodontic treatment, and a worse prognosis for endodontic treatment, as shown by an increased apical periodontitis / endodontic treatment ratio, are all linked to high levels of HbA1c >7%. The connection between Diabetes mellitus and periapical inflammation will need to be better understood by larger, prospective epidemiological multicenter research.
