This work deals with the subject of competition law in the maritime sector, its evolution over the last two centuries in the European Community, the importance of competition regulation, the path travelled until the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), its historical evolution and normative structure, at the level of Community law in the maritime sector. Another subject will be liner conferences, their historical evolution and the way they were regulated in the European Union up until the UNCTAD Code of Conduct on Liner Conferences. Finally, some aspects of the regulation of competition law in the maritime sector at national level will be addressed, i.e. in my country, Cape Verde, where we will focus on competition law in the Constitution of the Republic of Cape Verde, the role of the state in regulating competition, the abolition of the Maritime and Port Agency with the creation of the Maritime and Port Institute and finally the provisions applicable to companies included in Decree-Law 53/2003 of 24 November.

David Maurício Rocha Cardoso è nato nella Repubblica di Capo Verde, a Praia. Laureato in Giurisprudenza, ha conseguito un Master in Diritto Marittimo e Commercio Internazionale, un Diploma post-laurea in Scienze Giuridiche e Amministrative e attualmente lavora come avvocato presso il Ministero del Turismo e dei Trasporti di Capo Verde.
