Over the past decades, study of nonlinear optical properties of materials has been one of the major research topics in the field of Nonlinear Optics (NLO). Nonlinear optical materials are used for various optoelectronics applications such as optical switching, optical computing, optical data storage devices, optical phase conjugation and optical limiting, etc. Optical Limiting (OL) is one such important application in which the transmittance of laser beam through the materials decreases with increase in input intensity. Optical limiting materials are used to protect the human eyes and optical sensors from high intense laser beam. Organic dyes are one such important class of optical materials which exhibit large third-order nonlinear susceptibility, fast response time and thermal stability, etc. Several experimental techniques are being adopted by the researchers in order to investigate the third-order Nonlinear Optical (NLO) properties of materials. This thesis presents the third-order nonlinear optical properties and optical limiting behavior for a list of five anthraquinone dyes using the single beam Z-scan technique.
