Il a obtenu un doctorat en optique non linéaire dans le domaine des semi-conducteurs au Collège d'éducation pour les sciences pures de l'université de Bassorah, en Irak. Ses recherches portent sur les fibres à cristaux photoniques et les applications non linéaires.
