Hepatology is a sub field of medicine that deals with the study, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas. Liver cancers are a group of cancers that develop in the liver. There are several forms of liver cancers including primary liver cancer, secondary liver cancer, and benign liver tumors. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the major type of primary liver cancer that commonly develops in patients suffering from chronic liver diseases, such as cirrhosis. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common type of primary liver cancer that arises from cells lining the bile ducts. Secondary liver cancer is a cancerous tumor that has metastasized to the liver from a cancer in some other part of the body such as the stomach, breast, lung, or pancreas. This book includes some of the vital pieces of work being conducted across the world, on various topics related to cancers in hepatology. It will serve as a valuable source of reference for medical graduate and post graduate students.
