La miel de Manuka es conocida principalmente por sus propiedades antibacterianas, antimicrobianas, antioxidantes y cicatrizantes. El presente estudio demostró una disminución significativa de la inflamación gingival, un aumento del nivel de inserción clínica y un incremento de la profundidad de la bolsa periodontal desde el preoperatorio hasta los 3 meses de seguimiento debido a su capacidad de cicatrización de heridas. Así pues, puede utilizarse como alternativa tan eficaz como el gel de clorhexidina.
