Energy efficiency is a practice that aims to save energy through resource optimization mechanisms, without affecting processes, thus promoting economic and environmental sustainability. The most recent definition of Energy Efficiency is contained in the international standard ISO 50001 on "Energy Management Systems", published in September 2011: "Ratio or other quantitative relationship between the result in terms of performance, services, goods or energy and energy input". This standard will be applied in the development of this project, since its main purpose is to facilitate organizations to establish the necessary systems and processes to improve their energy performance and is based on the continuous improvement cycle Plan, Do, Check, Act.
