Propolis is a complex mixture of resinous, gummy and balsamic substances collected by honey bees from buds, flowers and plant exudates, to which the bees add salivary secretions to make the final product. In Brazil, there are several types of propolis with well-established compositions. The diversity of compounds present contributes to the many different biological activities that have already been demonstrated in various studies, but most of the work has endeavoured to use propolis in its raw form. The aim of this study was to fractionate a sample of green propolis using solvents of different polarities and to assess the antioxidant and phytotoxic potential of each fraction.
