This book addresses the theme of violence against the elderly, having as a guiding question the research question about what is the most practised violence against the elderly in the family environment. The main objective of the work is to analyse how violence against the elderly is characterised. The results of the research indicate that violence perpetrated against the elderly is a universal phenomenon and has occurred in many societies and cultures throughout the ages, as well as the numerous abuses and mistreatment practised against the elderly represent a serious social, governmental and family problem. In this context, the social worker needs to be aware of his role in the face of such a complex and delicate issue, as well as prepared to deal with public policies and government programmes in order to guarantee and ensure compliance with the provisions established in the Statute of the Elderly.
