The
Wortatlas der arabischen Dialekte / Word Atlas of Arabic Dialects (WAD) intends to provide an unprecedented survey of the lexical richness and diversity of the Arabic dialects as spoken from Uzbekistan to Mauretania and Nigeria, from Malta to Sudan, and including the Ki-Nubi Creole as spoken in Uganda and Kenya. The atlas is indispensable for everyone interested in the modern spoken Arabic language, as well as for dialectologists and for semanticists.
About the author
Peter Behnstedt, Dr. phil. (1973) in Romance philology, University of Tübingen, Dr. habil. (1997) in Arabic studies, University of Hamburg. He has published numerous works (dialect atlases, ethnographic texts, glossaries, monographs, articles) on Arabic dialects, in particular Egypt, Syria, Yemen and Morocco. He is co-author (with Manfred Woidich) of the five volumes on Egyptian Arabic Dialects (Wiesbaden 1984-1999), the
Arabische Dialektgeographie (Brill, 2005), and
Wortatlas der arabischen Dialekte, Band I: Mensch, Natur, Fauna und Flora (Brill, 2010),

Manfred Woidich, Dr. phil (1969) in Semitic studies, University of Munich, Professor Emeritus of Arabic language at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His publications on Cairo Arabic include
