This work documents the restoration of Qal'at Sem'an by Georges Tchalenko in the mid twentieth century. It is published for the first time with explanatory essays on the site and Tchalenko's life and work by Emma Loosley and John Tchalenko.

About the author










Emma Loosley Leeming, PhD (2001) School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London is Associate Professor of Theology at the University of Exeter. She specialises in the archaeology and ritual of early Christianity, particularly in Syria.

John Tchalenko, PhD (1962) Imperial College, London. Various publications on the seismotectonics of the Middle East and on the cognitive psychology of drawing. Author of Images from the Endgame: Persia through a Russian lens 1901-1914(SAQI, 2007).
