The Jewish Neo-Aramaic Dialect of Sulemaniyya and Ḥalabja

This volume contains a detailed grammatical description of the spoken Aramaic dialect of the Jewish communities in the towns of Sulemaniyya and ?alabja in North Eastern Iraq together with numerous transcribed texts. The dialect, which belongs to the North-Eastern Neo-Aramaic group, is now on the verge of extinction.

About the author

Geoffrey Khan, Ph.D. (1984) in Semitic Languages, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, is Professor of Semitic Philology at the University of Cambridge and Fellow of the British Academy. He has published extensively on medieval Semitic philology and Neo-Aramaic dialectology.
