This volume brings together interpretations of the story of Noach and the Flood in diverse ancient Jewish and Christian traditions (including the Dead Sea Scrolls, Gnostic mythology, rabbinical tradition). It opens with an analysis of the biblical story within its ancient oriental context and ends with essays by a historian of science and a psycho-analyst.

About the author

Florentino García Martínez is Professor at the University of Groningen where he heads the Qumran Institute. He has written numerous articles and books, including Qumran and Apocalyptic, The Dead Sea Scrolls Translated and The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition (all published by Brill).
Gerard P. Luttikhuizen is Professor of Early Christian Literature and New Testament Studies at the University of Groningen. He has published on early Christian Judaism, including The Revelation of Elchasai, and on Coptic Gnostic Literature.
