Latin medical texts transmit medical theories and practices that originated mainly in Greece. 'Greek' and 'Roman' in Latin Medical Texts studies the ways in which this cultural interaction led to innovations in the areas of anatomy, pathology and pharmacology, from the earliest Latin medical texts until well into the medieval world.

About the author

Brigitte Maire, Ph.D. Lausanne, is Senior Lecturer and Researcher of Latin at the University of Lausanne. She has published a critical edition of Gargilius Martialis (Paris, 2002) and co-edited Body, Disease and Treatment in a Changing World (Lausanne, 2010). She is currently preparing a critical edition of Celsus' De medicina.
