This is the first comprehensive commentary -line by line and word by word- on the seventh book of the epigrams of Martial. Literary, linguistic and metrical matters are examined in depth, and special attention is paid to the relationship with the poet's other books and with the rest of Greek and Latin Literature, as well as to the use of recurrent motifs, obscene language, puns, double meanings and proper names.

About the author

Guillermo Galán Vioque, Ph.D.(1996) in Classics at the University of Seville, is Assistant Professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Huelva. He has published extensively on Greek (mainly Hellenistic) and Latin poetry, and rhetoric and its transmission. Of special note is his Dioscórides. Epigramas (Huelva, Universidad, 2001).
