About the author










Emmanuel Gaillard founded and heads Shearman & Sterling's 100-lawyers International Arbitration practice. He has advised and represented companies, States and State-owned entities in hundreds of international arbitrations. He also acts as arbitrator and expert witness. Emmanuel Gaillard is universally regarded as a leading authority and a star practitioner in the fields of both commercial and investment treaty arbitration.

George A. Bermann is the Jean Monnet Professor of EU Law, Walter Gellhorn Professor of Law, and the director for the Center for International Commercial and Investment Arbitration (CICIA) at Columbia Law School. A Columbia Law School faculty member since 1975, Bermann teaches courses in transnational dispute resolution (international arbitration and litigation), European Union law, administrative law, and WTO law.
