Weekend tourism on Senegal's Petite Côte differs from international tourism in terms of its temporary nature, the geographical origins of the tourists (most of whom come from Dakar), the frequent commuting that takes place, and the reasons for staying, which are often related to rest. These movements are facilitated by the road network and Toubab Djalaw's proximity to urban centers. The area is also characterized by the installation of very modern second homes, whose architecture and equipment reflect a globalized world. These second homes are densely spread out along the seafront, reducing the village land area by their sheer size. From 47ha in 2005, their occupation had risen to 112.02ha by 2010. They are favored by land speculation and are a handicap for livestock farming and agriculture. They tend to be set up as main residences, given the many assets of the locality.
