When, at the beginning of the 20th century, a new form of art appeared under the term "contextual art", i.e. "a set of artistic forms of expression that differs from the work of art in the traditional sense", the museum was no longer the only space likely to host works of art or artistic performances. This notion of contextual art is best expressed in a space such as the Paris metro, since it presupposes investing reality in an event-driven way according to its context, with the aim of dialoguing with the community. The city is a place of continuous activity, often characterized by its routine and impulsive nature; it is, however, a space for exchange and encounters.
