A major theatre company in Russia decides to stage a bold new play about Stalin. The roles are cast, the set is constructed, and a preview for the press is arranged. One of the viewers happens to be the President of the Russian Federation ...Solomonov's play is about the troubling plasticity of the human psyche, about its readiness, under certain conditions, to reproduce the most dangerous practices of the totalitarian past. In fact, that past has seized the present moment and is about to become the future. The play shows how easily someone can turn into a tyrant and how readily his supporters allow him to become one. . , , - . , ... - . , : . , .

Report

Stalin's funeral in our country, oddly enough, has not yet taken place. That's why this witty, well-constructed play by Artur Solomonov is, alas, so relevant. And although it shows how one contemporary theatre company ventured to bury Stalinism and failed, the play allows you to enjoy the carnival illusion of the possibility of that funeral. By the way, Artur knows Russian repertory theatre very well, and this gives rise to an additional joy - the joy of recognition. Kirill Serebrennikov 20220102
