In shallow tropical perennial or seasonal ponds such a regular food cycle can be seen. Thus, in any aquatic ecosystem zooplankton not only take part in transferring food from primary to secondary level but also switch over conversion of detritus matter into edible animal food.Planktons provide a relevant and a convenient point of focus for research in to the mechanism of eutrophication and for development of measures to control its adverse impact on ecosystem. The importance of water quality is of great significance in 'blue revolution'. The study of availability of zooplankton in Tale Pimpalgaon dam was not worked out earlier. Similarly, no studies were carried out on the water quality of the dam and therefore, it was thought to study the primary productivity, species composition, distribution and abundance of zooplankton and diversity in relation to various physico-chemical parameters in different stations of the dam. So that it would help in future planning for the reclamation of such dam and its utilization.
