The notion of "identity" and its formative effects on the individual and on society, media, modern statehood, and international policy making, require an interdisciplinary debate. It is also important to have a multi-layered discussion about identity that includes various dimensions such as culture, family and religion - also from an intercultural perspective. In 2019, 15 scientists from Germany and Korea debated on the key category "identity", considering different cultural backgrounds as well as various fields of academic research. The 12th German-Korean Colloquium was hosted by Klaus Stüwe in Eichstätt and continued the longtime partnership between the Sogang University Seoul and the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. In this conference volume, selected contributions to this interdisciplinary German-Korean dialog are presented.
